The Research Unit focusses on bioinformatics research and development with a biomedical emphasis. The Unit conducts both basic and applied bioinformatics research in several areas of biology and medicine for discovery of novel solutions to current research problems, in particular those relevant to Malaysia. The growing amount of biological information currently available in public databases makes the use of bioinformatics technologies to access, mine and analyze these data an increasingly critical component of all biomedical research programmes. Bioinformatics research work has been initiated in key biomedical areas with immense needs for data warehousing and mining and with the potential for break-through discoveries, innovative solutions, and translational applications. The key thrust areas of the Research Unit are depicted below.
