The third year, graduate medical students of Perdana University organized the Community Service Project 2014 under the banner of our Student Representative Council. In accordance with our motto, “Perdana University – Where the past and future is present”, This project will create headway for our students to continuously service the community. Originally planned as a Student Selected Component activity as part of the PUGSOM curriculum, this project is aimed to provide an invaluable experience of living in a rural area with the designated foster families for our medical students. Besides gaining an understanding of what healthcare means among rural folks.
This CSR project is in collaboration with the Kuala Langat Health District Office. A total of 28 students, consisting of students from PUGSOM and PU-RCSI participated in the event. The students were housed among 15 foster families during this visit. It was a 3 days and 2 nights event that started on the 4 September – 7 September 2014.
This project is in line with the theme of ensuring that students in universities are provided with equal access to participate in extracurricular and nonacademic activities, which is a new theme emerging in many universities. This is recognized as a nontraditional course delivery and done during breaks between semesters.
