now Lead in Epidemiology and Public Health Medicine, PU-RCSI

RCSI invites applications for the position of Lead in Epidemiology and Public Health Medicine, which is a core component of the PU-RCSI Undergraduate Medical Programme. The position will be affiliated with the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health Medicine in RCSI Dublin. The role holder will deliver the RCSI curriculum in the multi-cultural environment of Kuala Lumpur and liaise with RCSI Dublin on curriculum delivery, examinations and research matters, ensuring academic quality and consistency across the RCSI campuses. S/he will also contribute to the development of the Public Health, Epidemiology and Evidence Based Health components of the new RCSI direct entry undergraduate programme, which will have a strong technology-enhanced learning (TEL) component; and which will be implemented across the RCSI campuses from 2019.

RCSI delivers the same medical degree programme and academic degree across its campuses in Ireland, Bahrain and Malaysia. The RCSI Epidemiology and Public Health Medicine Lead in Perdana University is responsible for delivering this same course and for contributing to the assessment and on-going development and quality assurance of this common programme. PU- offers a novel Community Health Programme in rural areas in Year 3 of the course. Support to and further development of this programme is an important responsibility for the role.

RCSI is seeking a professional who is passionate about teaching, who would like to experience working as an academic in an international environment, who demonstrates initiative, openness, resilience and who is keen to explore possibilities for research in the region and across the RCSI campuses.

Lead positions at PU-RCSI are academic posts with the principal focus being on teaching, assessment, developing partnerships and research. RCSI welcomes candidates who are committed to building and developing a programme of research in epidemiology and/or public health. Opportunities will arise for joint research activities across the RCSI campuses, and the successful candidate may look to continue research already in progress.

Successful applicants will:

  • A medical degree (MB BS/BCh or equivalent) – essential
  • A postgraduate Masters degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, or equivalent discipline – essential
  • Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland, or the Malaysian Medical Council, or equivalent specialty registration in a recognised Medical Council – desirable
  • A doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, DSc, or equivalent) – desirable

The position will be affiliated with the Department of Paediatrics in RCSI Dublin. Opportunities may also arise for engaging in research studies; liaising with RCSI Dublin or continuing research studies already in progress.

Perdana University RCSI has established a Department of Pathology with an RCSI Lead which is commensurate with the importance of Pathology in Mechanisms of Disease in Malaysia, and as one of pillars in the Graduate Medical Profile (MGP) of RCSI and Perdana University RCSI.

The RCSI Lead appointment in Pathology is responsible for adapting and developing the RCSI curriculum in Mechanisms of Disease to meet the needs of Malaysia.  This unique curriculum will draw on and apply the best of international and national Pathology teaching methods.

Perdana University has established a post at Associate professor/senior lecturer level to support the delivery of the Mechanisms of Disease in the Perdana University RCSI curriculum.  The level of appointment will be determined by the requirements of RCSI and Perdana University RCSI and the academic experience, qualifications and research track record of the successful applicants.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • The relevant Pathology specialist qualification, as recognized by RCSI
  • Evidence of ability to teach Pathology at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level
